Inspired by queridorafa‘s post about the most random doubles pairings throughout history, I wanted to see if JMDP had any surprising doubles partners in the past.
I had no idea I was in for a surprise. JMDP once played doubles with Fabio Fognini. FABIO. Here is a man who at any moment carries more hysterical drama in the tip of his pinky finger than most people have in a lifetime. Everyone knows who you’re referring to when you say “Fabio.”
It’s painful, but the photograph evidence is below:
I’ve been catching up on “Downton Abbey” and there’s a scene that sums up how we should treat this startling discovery. When Charles Carson, the stern and dignified butler of Lord Grantham’s estate, is found to have once been part of an acting troupe called the “Cheerful Charlies” (a fitting name for DelPo-Fabio), he is horrified and embarrassed. But Lord Grantham refuses Carson’s resignation, and he placates his butler by telling him, “We all have chapters we’d rather keep unpublished.” So there! Stare in horror at the photographs above and then let’s never speak of this again.
