Stockholm: Nalbandian Withdraws With Injury

(Update: Clarin reports that he withdrew because of a leg injury.  I’ve included the new information below).

Nalbandian withdrew from the 2011 Stockholm Open, giving his opponent James Blake a walkover in their QF match.  The reason cited for his withdrawal is a left hamstring injury.  He will not be playing St. Petersburg, the tournament he was scheduled to play next week.

This is very surprising news given the ease with which Nalby defeated Ivan Dodig yesterday (6-1 6-1).  I hope this is just a precautionary move and that it is nothing too serious.  This is part and parcel of watching a player who is so prone to injury.  He seemed to have achieved great form as he progressed at the Stockholm Open and now he will probably be due for a break.

I play favorites with Juan Martin Del Potro, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, David Ferrer, Feliciano Lopez, Gilles Simon and the long line of mercurial talent that drives me to despair in front of the screen at odd hours during the week.
