Rotterdam: DelPo Trains with Federer & DelPetzsch Win a Match

Here are photos that were taken during the DelPetzsch match (courtesy of Christy @triplebagel, who spent four days at the tournament).  According to Christy, the gigantic poster of DelPo is still stationed at the main entrance.  Meanwhile, Fed’s poster is stationed at the VIP entrance (of course ;)), while Berdy’s image is posted at an indoor location.  In conclusion, DelPo’s poster is still the central image that greets the great majority of visitors—I like Mr. Kracijek already.

Christy attended the DelPetzsch match, which got re-located to Court 1 at the last moment, due to the center court matches running late.  Here are her photos:

DelPo makes a best effort to look comfortable at the net.  He’s actually not a bad volleyer, but he doesn’t have the instinctive reactions of say, a Nalbandian.  In any case, DelPo’s trying and DelPetzsch won their match.

This photo was probably taken right after Petzsch made a terrible mistake at the net.  See, even the so-called net experts make mistakes, which gives the base-liners a fleeting opportunity to cast smug and righteous glances.

Dubs master Petzsch paired with Argieman DelPo, following his country’s DC defeat to Argentina this past weekend.

Up next is DelPo’s singles match with Llodra.  Looking over the scoreboard stats of the DelPetzsch match, it was worrying that neither one of the two hit an ace during the match.  I hope DelPo’s serve is up to par after the Oz Open.

Earlier this week, DelPo and Fed had a training session together.  Due to Davis Cup, many players were unavailable to play on Monday, which led to only 4 matches on the 1st day of the tourny.  In order to compensate for the ticket prices, Kracijek asked DelPo and Fed to train together, so spectators could watch.  They duly obliged.

I really like Fed’s t-shirt.  Per the Nike model of marketing its male tennis stars, Fed and Rafa are first in the pecking order.  Then Berdy and DelPo.  Tomic looks an upcoming threat as well.  I just wish Nike would share the fun t-shirts with more of their players.

Drama in Rotterdam!

There have been questions about whether DelPo is competitive enough and whether he has the mean streak that is necessary to win.

A brief episode that happened on Twitter reveals that perhaps DelPo does have the mean streak necessary for success.

Alex Bogomolov Jr. recently tweeted:

Then, Bogo tweeted (I’m paraphrasing):

Your favorite player Juan walked right past and ignored them.  Pathetic!”

(Bogo later deleted that Tweet, so it’s unavailable for viewing).

Apparently, people on Twitter took issue with Bogo calling DelPo “pathetic” and harangued Bogo.  Bogo tried to explain himself, with the following:

Then, Bogo retreated and issued the following apology:

This is the first time I’ve seen a tennis player openly trash-talk another player on Twitter.

Let’s just set the record straight: DelPo is a saint.  I don’t believe he didn’t stop to sign the autograph.  I bet it’s the child’s fault for not standing on his toes so he’d fall within DelPo’s line of eyesight.  That’s right, I’m shifting the blame to the child.  All in all, I believe I’ve given a fair overview of what actually happened on that rainy day in Rotterdam 😉

Also, all ATP players should watch themselves when they’re in Bogo’s vicinity—they should never utter words like “strike” and they should sign EVERYONE’S autographs, lest Bogo tweet about it.  Beware of a Bogomolov in the rain!

I play favorites with Juan Martin Del Potro, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, David Ferrer, Feliciano Lopez, Gilles Simon and the long line of mercurial talent that drives me to despair in front of the screen at odd hours during the week.

“Let’s just set the record straight: DelPo is a saint.”–LOLZ. Love this approach! And, I think you’re right–it’s probably the kid’s fault, anyway. (and–Bogo is always stirring up trouble and having hissy fits on court and Tweet fights, so, I really don’t trust his judgment very much!)

Hahaha, it was such a random incident! I guess Bogo is a straight shooter and he says things without knowing the effects it will have on other people/fans of other tennis players. Or maybe he knows exactly what he was doing, when he did it. Bogo does add quite a bit of variety to tennis player tweetings. Hahha, I just wish he hadn’t picked on DelPo though. But they made up! Bogo apparently trained w/DelPo and then tweeted about that too. So all is good in Rotterdam again 🙂

I am having a hearty mid-week, mid-workday guffaw/chuckle/giggle-fit at your obviously unbiased DelPo reinterpretation!! Delightful, absolutely delightful. Small persons can cause so much trouble.

Bogo is quite the expressive tweeter, isn’t he?

Lol, my first thought when I read Bogo’s tweets was “Oh DelPo. Why didn’t you stop for the kid?,” which was soon followed by “How dare you tweet about that, Bogo. How dare you. Pfft.” I’m just going to pretend it never happened 😉

Bogo *is* very expressive on Twitter. I think he kind of learned a lesson from this recent incident though. He’s been mostly diplomatic ever since!
