DelPo is training in Miami, getting ready for his R2 match against the winner of Kubot-Karlovic. So far, he’s attended Gonzo’s farewell party (Gonzo plays what may be he list match in a few hours), he did an ESPN interview wearing a nice orange-stripey shirt, and then … he posted a few photos of himself grocery-shopping.
Grocery-shopping? That’s right, at the supermarket. DelPo is now that player who announces his trips to the supermarket. It looks like it was a jaunty outing for him.
He’s just an ordinary mountain of a man shopping at the supermarket for “household items,” as he puts it. Was this Franco’s idea, to share their grocery trip with the world? From what I can tell, there are a lot of tomatoes and pasta involved. I spot a packet of Chips-Ahoy as well. If he should lose a match in the future, I will blame the cookies.
Juan Martin, it’s not a Vogue photo shoot! He grips the handles of the supermarket cart awfully tight. Nobody who shops regularly at a supermarket pushes their carts like that (so methodically and with so much purpose…)
On Tuesday night, DelPo attended a Miami Heat match (they won!) I think he looked happier shopping for groceries.
- In other news, DelPo confirmed he will play the greatest exho tourny ever, the Boodles Challenge! That’s the grass exhibition tourny that takes place right before Wimbledon. With his participation at Queen’s confirmed, it seems DelPo is gunning hard for a solid grass season run this year.
- In an interview, DelPo said he would definitely be willing to play an exho match with Gonzo, should Gonzo want to do that after his retirement. I hope Gonzo makes it happen — they played an exho tourny together in Uruguay earlier this year.
- Cilic and Karlovic are teaming up for doubles in Miami, presumably in preparation for the Davis Cup tie. Their first match is against … recent IW dubs champ Rafa Nadal and his compadre, Marcel Granollers.
