Following a wait, during which the Armada (or rather, Ferru and Feli) took many awesome field-trip like photos of their experience at the London Olympics, Team Argentina have finally congregated:
Pico and Nalby are happy munchkins in the cafeteria.
DelPo and Nalbandian came a bit later than the other Argentinean tennis players, but they finally arrived at the Olympics Village yesterday. I like the t-shirts, although it’s surprising Topper wasn’t chosen to make their official training/competition outfits.
Then, Gisela Dulko, ARG’s DC sub-captain (and fellow Tandil native) Mariano Zabaleta, and Eduardo Schwank appeared on bicycles taking a tour of the Village.
Edu flaunts his shirtless Argentina gear with Berlocq. I wonder if DelPo will opt for the shirtless t-shirt, in a nostalgic throwback to his pre-2011 outfits?
DelPo had arrived at the London airport and given a video interview (rocking an awesome Argentina jacket along with some, ahem, facial growth) — in the interview, he talked about his hopes for this Olympics, while also congratulating Pico for his top 10 ranking. DelPo talked about the somewhat uncertain nature of tennis at the Olympics, which is more prone to upsets and surprise medalists.
Just as I was starting to worry that DelPo had gotten lost on his way from the airport (London is apparently experiencing transport problems, due to increased traffic), DelPo showed up on the training courts. He had a hitting session with Pico. Ta-da:
Muzz photobombs this precious photo of DelPo practicing on the Wimbledon grounds. The venue looks so different, now that it’s been redecorated for the Olympics.
Finally, Carlos Berlocq (who has been most generous with sharing photos of his experience at the Olympics), shared this photo of Team Argentina at the cafeteria:
It wouldn’t be a Team Argentina photo without DelPo’s eyes being closed, Nalby’s face blocked out, and Pico’s blurry face. At least the great majority of people in this photo are actually staring at the camera. How cute are Berlocq and Edu? ARG’s outfits are nice too. Although Team Spain’s photos have a better field-trip feel, at least Argentina’s outfits are awesome 🙂
The draw for the singles competition takes place in about 5-6 hours. I will update with the great draw-related news when I can!
