As you know, DelPo traditionally starts his clay season at the Portugal Open. This year, he has decided to grace the Monte Carlo tournament with his presence. He gave a pre-tournament interview:
He was cheery and full of smiles. In his interview, DelPo says that clay is not his favorite surface. That’s not surprising to hear, given the injury troubles he’s had on that surface. Still, he has quite a sterling record on clay and the hope is he can continue in the right direction. He will play Dolgopolov in R2 (Dolgo was in great form when he defeated Tomic in straight sets in R1).
DelPo then shared a photo of him standing in front of the seaside backdrop. HandsOnHisHipsPo! A lanky Hip-po, if you will:
Here are some extra photos of DelPo practicing in Monte Carlo:

In other news, Djokovic continues his preparation for MC, in spite of his lingering ankle injury. Djokovic was reportedly testing out the ankle during training. At one point, he ran up the stairs to test whether or not there was pain. Djokovic said he will make his decision on Tuesday, whether or not to play in the tournament. Should Djokovic decide not to play, Blaz Kavcic would replace him in the draw.
The Centre Court action at MC will be filled with fun matches today. In addition to DelPo-Dolgo, fans will see Gasquet-Paire and Tsonga-Davydenko. The Gulbis-Isner match is sure to attract fans of the pain-loving variety.
