I See London. I See France.

It’s only a mere three days before the London WTF starts and all 8 contenders are still in action at the Paris Bercy QFs.  Bercy is turning out to be a fitting lead-up to the season finale in London — Bercy tournament director Guy Forget must be very pleased with the events this week:

  • Wawrinka qualified for the first time at the age of 28, after a breakout season that saw him challenge Djokovic and Murray.  The other Swiss guy is the sole “debutante” this year.  Gasquet, who nabbed the 8th spot, makes his return to the season finale after 2007.  It’s been a solid year for the Frenchman as well, who broke a losing 1-13 losing streak in R4 at Slams, when he reached the SF at the USO this year.
  • Fed qualified for the 12th time in his career.  Although Fed has struggled this year, he is picking up form after a strong performance in the Basel final (where he lost in 3 sets to DelPo).  DelPo and Fed will meet again at the Bercy QF, where it looks like Fed might have the edge.  Hopefully, DelPo will put up a fight and eke out the win, as the big man is still vying for his maiden Masters title.
  • Today’s Bercy QF line-up: Djokvic vs. Wawrinka, Del Potro vs. Federer, Gasquet vs. Nadal and Ferrer vs. Berdych.

About mariposaxprs

I play favorites with Juan Martin Del Potro, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, David Ferrer, Feliciano Lopez, Gilles Simon and the long line of mercurial talent that drives me to despair in front of the screen at odd hours during the week.

I just can’t resist celebrating with this interview with Delpo discussing his “huevos.”

We’ll just have to take his word for it 😉

The “huevos” part is funny. I don’t remember him being gifted the eggs, but apparently it happened. We’ll just have to take his word for it, as you say 🙂

DelPo seemed a bit tired at Bercy, but hopefully he’s resting up now and getting ready for the Group of Death at the London WTF. I’ll do a post tomorrow about the robbery, the draw and the Gala. Have you seen DelPo’s Gala photos? His suit was 3 sizes too small for him…

Yes, I’m sure Delpo’s huevos are mighty fine 😉
He should have skipped Bercy, there was nothing to gain except one last, far-fetched chance at a Masters. I think he’s just too tall the have the stamina to play this much.
The Gala fashions were beyond horrible, who on earth picked the cut and accessories – brown shoes that appeared to fade to black at the toes??? Not that seeing Juan in skin-tight clothes is a bad thing, just not in a suit at an event like this. Maybe they made a mistake, giving him Berdy’s outfit? Did Saville Row go out of business? What saved the day was his decision to bring Franco Davin’s little girl as his date. How precious is that? Jorge Viale is finally earning his keep as a press agent, I’ve never seen so many positive interviews including this insightful on re his spiritual side. After last year’s disastrous sex tape scandal, he’s working hard on projecting his St. JuanMa image. Everybody loves a reformed sinner.
